2021 ATLANTIC CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
CANCELLED DUE TO ONGOING COVID-19 PANDEMIC
May 21st, 2021
The Atlantic Canadian Championship committee (consisting of representatives of Softball Nova Scotia, Softball Newfoundland and Labrador, Softball New Brunswick, and Softball PEI) have made the very difficult, yet necessary collective decision to cancel all 2021 Atlantic Canadian Championships (ACC), along with the Provincial Team weekends that were scheduled for throughout June and July, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that continues to impact all Provinces / Territories across the country.
2021 Atlantic Canadian Championships:
U14 Girls (August 12-15th) – NL
U14 Boys (August 12-15th) – NB
U16 Girls (August 12-15th) – PEI
U16 Boys (August 12-15th) – NB
U19 Women’s (August 5-8th) – NS
U19 Men’s (August 5-8th) – NL
Int. Women’s (August 19-22nd) – PEI
The scheduled ACC tournaments were set to take place throughout the month of August in place of the 2021 Softball Canada Canadian Championships that were cancelled last month. However, after extensive discussions and careful consideration among our executive committee, we arrived at the decision to cancel all Atlantic Championships and Provincial Team weekends scheduled for this year. The health and safety of the athletes, coaches, officials, spectators, tournament organizers, and volunteers continue to be our number one (1) priority. In addition, logistical concerns such as the uncertainty of the Atlantic Bubble, varying provincial government restrictions, venue availability, adequate training/tryout opportunities and travel/accommodation bookings were also all factors that were considered.
Currently, all Provinces are working toward another safe Return to Play in our respective provinces with a focus on league play, tournaments and hopefully Provincial Championships.
The Atlantic Canadian Championship Committee would like to sincerely thank our members and communities that were scheduled to host Championships this year for their understanding, cooperation, and full support on this decision.
Sincerely,
Hillary Pineau Dave Feener Kerri Hyde Caroline Crooks
